Our Story

Backpacks for America, Inc. was formed with the basic goal of purchasing and organizing backpacks stocked with essential supplies to be delivered to Boston’s homeless community. You can trace the origins of Backpacks for America back to late summer and early fall of 2019 when a small group of strategy consultants joined forces to give back to the community in which they worked. The endeavor was originally called Backpacks for Boston (B4B), and it stayed that way until April of 2022, at which point we officially incorporated with the State of Massachusetts as Backpacks for America, Inc.. and registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Due to the onset of COVID-19, each year we have chosen to donate the backpacks to the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) to distribute them safely to their patients. The number of people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in MA remains very high and it is our mission to deliver hope to those affected, one backpack at a time.

  • In 2019, B4B raised $2,050 and delivered 30 backpacks
  • In 2020, B4B raised $3,255 and delivered 48 backpacks
  • In 2021, B4B raised $1,575 and delivered 30 backpacks

Our goal is to grow and expand these efforts such that more people are able to get involved in the donating and building side of things, while we steadily grow the number of people helped.

Our team has been fortunate to have a great group of donors who have helped us accomplish what we’ve done so far. With your help, we can expand Backpacks for America even more. Will you join us?
